Rational Unified Process (RUP)

RUP implements the best practices listed above within a two-dimensional process. One dimension describes "disciplines" while the other dimension describes "phases" within the lifecycle of the process. Figure 1 shows a high-level graphical representation of the process.

- Inception Phase: reach agreement among all stakeholders on the lifecycle objectives for the project

- Elaboration Phase: Baseline the Architecture of the System

- Construction Phase: clarify the remaining requirements and complete the development of the system

- Transition Phase: fine-tune the product on user feedback and prepare for release
